Liam turned two last week. It is hard to believe that two years have already gone by. Our little Liam is busy, busy, busy. He's starting to put little sentences together. Every day he has more and more words. One of his favorites right now is "garbage," usually said between running back and forth between the bathroom (where he gets a kleenex and rubs his nose) and the kitchen (where he throws the kleenex away in the kitchen garbage). I haven't figured out yet why he doesn't just throw the kleenex away in the bathroom garbage. It also means that we have to keep a close eye on him, because sometimes in the excitement of throwing the kleenex away, other things make their way to the garbage also. Wade tells me he has also taken to roaming the halls at Bethel asking passing students, "Garbage? Garbage?"
Liam's day started with breakfast with Trey and Christine at Perkins, where he picked the very nutritious chocolate chip pancakes. They also gave him new cars from the movie Cars. Then it was off to home, so that mommy could work on her birthday cake creation. Just to remind everyone, I don't actually cook or bake. The kitchen just doesn't bring out the best in me, but Liam loves trains, so I really wanted to try and make a train cake. Apparently me and thousands of other moms thought the same thing. Try googling "how to make a train cake," there are thousands of things that come up. I watched a video on You tube with directions. In case you were keeping track, the frosting and decorating of the cake required:
9 knives
7 spoons
6 bowls
3 cookie sheets
2 cutting boards
2 tubes of frosting (which I was unable to use to pipe frosting for train tracks)
By the time I came home from the library, it was almost time for Liam's party. Jeff and Susanne came over to celebrate with us. Thanks to them we have beautiful pictures of the evening.
Liam making music--a perfect birthday gift from Jeff and Susanne! Does it look like we're forcing him to play his xylophone against his will?!
Then some pizza for dinner
After dinner, time for some present-opening.
Notice Wade's overly joyous appearance.
How much of this fake food will fit in my mouth? Just watch, Mom!
It took quite a while to convince Liam to open more gifts after the fake food--he was pretty taken by it. This cash register is from the Mobley's, who get major kudos for sending this. Not only does Liam love it, at the very moment Liam was opening this, Christy was an hour away from giving birth to her beautiful baby girl, Elsbeth. She can be seen in all of our her beauty at the SweetScooterBicks blog on the side! Liam is thrilled to share his birthday with her!
Liam's big gift from us and his Nana and Papa was his very own kitchen. He was so excited when we carried it into the room. Later that night when we told him it was time for his bath, Liam wrapped his arms around it and tried to take it to the bathroom with us.
Time for cake!
